Efficient curing of vinyl esters by thiol-ene polymerization
Monomers based on vinyl esters have recently been identified as suitable alternative to (meth)acrylates, especially due to the low irritancy and cytotoxicity of these monomers. The drawback of vinyl esters is their relatively low reactivity compared to (meth)acrylates. To overcome that it was tried to enhance the reactivity by the us
Effect of photocrosslinking on the thermal stability of UHMWPE films
Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) is a unique high performance polymer with outstanding mechanical properties and low density. However, the critical disadvantage of UHMWPE is its low thermal stability which can be improved by polymer crosslinking. The photocrosslinking was carried out by continuous UV irradiation on U
Easy-cleanable protective coatings: a breakthrough solution with energy curable technology
Special effect and functional coatings are adding performance and value in various market sectors including packaging, automotive, appliances, consumer goods, teletronics and various other industrial finish applications making use of plastic materials (1). With the increasing use of tactile touch interface, the need for easy to clean
Diode Laser Induced Photopolymerization: Role of the Photoinitiating Systems
The search for new photoinitiating systems remains important. The design of new sources of radicals for free radical photopolymerization and free radical promoted cationic photopolymerization is the subject of huge research efforts. The search of systems suitable for an exposure to novel light irradiation devices such as LED, diode l
Development of waterbased UV curable inkjet inks for printing on plastic substrates
Why are UV-curable inkjet inks not used for foodpackaging today?•MIGRATION of monomers and photoinitiators•SMELL of non perfectly cured filmsWhat are the main problems of purely water/solvent-based inkjet inks?•High drying times•VOC-content•Poor image quality especially on non porous materials•No drop fix at ionis possible•Poor solvent resistance•O
Decorative Ceramic Surfaces using UV-curable Adhesion Promoters and Nanocomposites Coatings
Digital printing is becoming important in the ceramic tiles industry in order to obtain surfaces with excellent technical and aesthetic properties. Decoration of ceramic products using ink-jet technology by means of UV-curable inks entails an extensive research of different adhesion promoters and top-coat formulations in order to ens
Curing behavior of UV-LED curable inks: Influence of dose, irradiance and wavelength
Over the last decade the irradiance of commercial UV-LED devices increased from a few hundred mW/cm² to approximately 10 W/cm² leading to a wide range of UV-LED curing applications, e.g. curing of adhesives, coatings as well as pinning and full curing of digital inks.UV-LED sources are characterized by low energy consumption, low vol
Curing behavior of UV-curable coating in presence of different multi-functional monomers
The curing behavior of a Urethane-Acrylate UV curable Resin which had been diluted by three monomers (HDDA, TMPTA and DIPEPA), has been studied. Two ClearCoat formulations with different monomer compositions were prepared and cured. Coatings were cut into three thin layers by means of Microtomy sectioning. Both FTIR and HPLC analysis
