Cationic UV-curing systems based on cycloaliphatic-epoxides continue to progress across a wide
spectrum of end applications, Including metal decoration, flexographic printing, rapid prototyping and electronic applications. The present study has been aimed at identifying ways of achieving rapid and efficient photo-induced cationic polymerization of highly pigmented white container coatings and process color flexo inks by means of new raw materials. The evaluation of new photoinitiators, mainly iodonium salts, associated to both new and existing photosensitizers, the selection of pigments and the influence of new reactive compounds, e.g. cycloaliphatic-epoxides and oxetanes, will be reported.
