Cationic UV is typically used in coating and ink applications, which are generally applied as thin
films (<6 microns). Curing thicker sections is important for applications like, , and . Cationics have benefits for these types of applications. The low shrinkage of cationics is important for limited distortion during cure and the excellent adhesion is a useful benefit if plastic or metal substrates are involved. This paper attempts to provide a better understanding of factors affecting cationic UV cure of thick sections so that applications requiring deep cure might better capture the advantages of cationic UV.
