UV powder has the potential to be one of the most important powder technologies for the future. After several years of development efforts it has been possible for DuPont Powder Coatings to
commercialise the UV powder technology in Europe. From the very beginning in 1993 we believed in the so we worked on the project until we were successful. The first commercial UV powder
line in Europe was installed at Stilexo Industrial (U.K.) Ltd in the UK. Since the summer of 1999 Stilexo has been coating MDF television furniture with one layer of a pigmented textured UV powder with excellent coating properties. MDF, however, is not the only substrate for which we have been able to develop a technical solution. During the spring of 2000 Polyflor Ltd. in the UK began coating PVC flooring with a UV-curable powder clearcoat and has been very successful since the beginning. Since the start of these two commercial lines DuPont Powder Coatings has developed even better UV powder formulations for MDF and PVC flooring. With new UV powder formulations intended for MDF we can now meet the requirements of the European furniture industry for such demanding, high-end applications as tabletops. Work on coatings for PVC flooring has shown us that it is possible to formulate excellent coatings for many different PVC flooring applications. As one of the few truly global suppliers we are now ready to offer UV powder coatings world-wide. Today we have UV powder pilot lines both in Europe and in the US to make it possible to optimize the formulations and process for all the customer projects we work on. Building on past successes and continuing to focus on our customers' needs, we are very optimistic about the future growth of UV powder.
