Introduction

Environmental and safety problems (solvent emission,
energy consumption, flammability) associated with
solvent based pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) have
intensified the, development of and conversion to
alternative technologies in the last ten years e.g.
emulsion and holtmelt PSA.

These systems do not always offer all the properties of
the solvent based PSA e.g. the water sensitivity for
acrylic emulsions and the shear resistance at high
temperature for hotmelts are low.

It is well known that EB and UV technology have been
very successful in the field of inks and coatings
(improved properties, low energy consumption, high
productivity..) The reason of this success comes from
the fact, that this technology is particularly well
adapted for those kinds of applications where high
crosslinking densities are required.
