All industrial business has an impact on our heaJth and environment in some way or other. Coatings are no exception. The main purpose of the coatings is to contribute with a positive environmental impact by adding aesthetic value and protecting the surface. We all have a responsibility for our products' impact on the environment during their whole lifecycle. From the cradle to the grave. Demands on the environmental work are increasing all the time from different groups in the society, for instance, authorities, neighbours, customer, mass media and the public.
The companies' image is affected by valuation within the industry but also in the whole society. Through a well built up network with different pressure groups and a sensitive ear to public debate on problems of society can great advantages be gained with regard to the surrounding's expectations and valuation. The companies must, as far as possible, live up to the environmental demands the consumer and customer puts on them as a producer and distributor of products. Of course without jeopardising the product's function and life-span. We must strive to be proactive in the environmental field. To only follow the governmental laws and regulations is no longer enough. We must carry on a targeted development, by constant improvement and prevention of contamination, to minimise the products', the production's and the handling's impact on our environment, health and safety. The care about health and environment must permeate our daily work. We must all actively work together in the whole chain towards long-term, durable progress.
The environmental effect of all surface treatment systems will be more questioned in the future.
Special regard will have to be given to health risks. The occurrence of allergic trouble is increasing. People have over the years become more sensitive to strange substances, and therefore the use of unknown chemical substances in products is called in question.
