2. 1 EBC for the avoidance of solvents and NOx
German lacquer manufacturers produced 1.55 mio. to (100 %) of lacquers, coating
materials and solvents worth DM 7.5 Mrd in 1991(see also table on page 2).
The increase in quantity compared with 1990 amounted to 8.3 %.
From them 67.100 to (4,3 %) were apportioned to environmentally friendly electrophoresis
and water-based lacquers and 43.000 to (2,8 %) to powder coatings with an
rate of increase of 19,5 % and 14,8 % respectively in the same period of time.
The increase in normal industrial lacquers containing solvents was only 1,4 %.
Only by using 43.000 to of powder coatings 120.000 to of lacquers containing solvents
could be saved [1].
Having a closer look at those figures, the share of environmentally friendly coating
materials is only 7,1 %.
Here only figures regarding the lacquer industry are mentioned, however, the conditions
may be similar with printing inks, finishing varnishes, silicone-release materials and
adhesives.
