In recent years photo-polymerization has attracted much attention because of its increasing technical importance in, various. Much effort has been devoted to free radical photoinitiated
polymerization, mainly due to the availability of a wide range of photoinitiators. For specific
applications this key component has often to be adapted. The spectral sensitivity e.g. for pigmented systems, absorption characteristics after cleavage e.g. for the' curing of thick layers or the oxygen inhibition depends on the type of photoinitiator applied.
Hydroxyakylphenones, 'a highly efficient and widespread used class of radical photoinitiators has,
been extensively studied in the past 3 Manifold modifications were carried out by substitution
of the a-carbon atom or at the para-position of the aromatic.
Most of the nowadays used radical Pis are based, on the benzoyl chromophor which plays' an
important role in absorption characteristics, cleavage and addition rates to double bonds. Apart these characteristics there is only little knowledge available on other ketone based chromophores. Aliphatic ketones without any additional conjugated system were investigated by Lissi.
