IKEA is a home furnishing company. Our vision is to contribute to a better everyday life for the many people. We do this by offering a wide range of home furnishing items of good design and function, at prices so low that the majority of people can afford to buy them. This is our business idea. Low price with a meaning. IKEA aims to have as short a distance as possible between customer and supplier. We are a product oriented group of retail companies, where the product range with low prices, good design and quality is the base. We meet our customers in IKEA stores, through IKEA catalogues and other forms of marketing. In our product development, purchasing and distribution we try hard to save resources. For capacity development we look all over the world to find new materials, techniques, and low prices - giving our customers breathtaking offers with a considerably lower price than our competitors. IKEA of Sweden (loS), the Product Range company is setting up the IKEA range and is responsible for its effectiveness and competitive strength on all IKEA markets. loS is also responsible for the product quality and product safety as well as for assuring good's availability in the stores and warehouses. Responsibility for the environment is a natural part of the IKEA company philosophy. Being thrifty and careful with resources was always a virtue at IKEA. Long before environmental problems clouded the horizon, IKEA was already building its business on the concept of "waste not, want not". Initially the challenge we set ourselves was to keep our prices down to a level whereas many people as possible could afford to furnish their home with beautiful, functional furniture. Over time it has become second nature to us, a way of thinking that now goes hand-in-hand with our environmental approach. And the aim in both cases is the same - to be thrifty and careful in making sure we do not use more resources than we need. IKEA has a very strong environmental policy. We shall always strive to minimise any possible damaging effects on the environment which may result as a consequence of our activities. We shall therefore always strive to ensure that our product range with regard to raw materials, production, distribution, use and disposal is environmentally friendly strive to ensure that customers purchasing articles from IKEA feel they are contributing to a better environment through their choice of products. Customers shall therefore be provided with factual information about the characteristics of products, component materials etc. which they require in order to arrive at a purchasing decision strive to ensure that environmentally friendly, preferably recyclable, materials are used. Products and materials which have detrimental effects on the environment should if possible be phased out or substituted by environmentally better alternatives.  We shall furthermore always continue to fulfil our basic principles, namely to maintain a real price advantage for products, which from our customers' point of view are comparable with those of our competitors, and to provide the best possible offer within each function.
