Silicone release coated papers and films provide "easy release" surfaces for a
wide variety of "sticky" applications: label stock, adhesive tapes, personal hygiene
products, building and construction materials, protective liners, and many others.
These silicone release coated liners provide a non-adhering surface upon which
adhesive materials may be coated, processed, and transported. They protect
such adhesive coated products as pressure-sensitive-adhesive (PSA) label stock
and tapes during such converting operations as die-cutting and slitting, and they
allow for easy release (or unwind) just prior to it's intended final use.

The major application for release liners (or backings) is for use in combination
with a PSA coated face stock targeted for adhesive label applications. The PSA
itself may be designed for either permanent or repositionable end-use label
applications, and it is usually based on tackified acrylic, SBR, or natural rubbers.
The release liner is PSA-laminated onto printed face stock and re-wound onto
bulk rolls. These laminated rolls are then further converted by die-cutting the
labels through the printed label stock and adhesive to the surface of the release
liner. This is followed by removal of the unprinted matrix (trim) surrounding the
die-cut label. The unbordered labels on the release liner are now ready for final
application.

The release attributes of a release liner are critical to both the manufacture and
end-use applications of a PSA label. Manufacturers of PSA label stock rely very
heavily on the smooth and consistent separation of silicone release coated paper
