Photoinitiators (P1) represent one of the key components in radiation curable for dental applications is camphorquinone (CQ). This initiator belongs to the class of Type II Pls reacting by bimolecular hydrogen abstraction from suitable amines such as ethyl 4-dimethylaminobenzoate (DMAB) acting as coinitiator 34 The first step in this reaction is a very fast electron transfer to the excited CQ giving charged radicals. After a much slower proton transfer process, two radicals are formed, where only the amine based radical is able to initiate photopolymerization.
