Industrial applications of photo-induced chain crosslinking polymerisation processes have been increasing in recent years. Known examples, besides the classical use in coatings, are the replication of optical discs, of aspherical lenses for laser read—out systems, the in-line coating of optical fibres, the production of lenses and organic glass articles of high quality. For these
applications, densely crosslinked, glassy polymers are required, such as those which may be obtained by photopolymerisation of suitable diacrylates. Photopolymerisation of diallyl oxydiethylene dicarbonate has also been newly investicated for this purpose.
