Multifunctional acrylates have become important building blocks in radiation curable formulations. In- and tetra-acrylates of the first generation, such as TMPTA and PETA, in spite of being excellent products, have been increasingly replaced due to their high skin irritation values.
The alternatively available alkoxylated tri-acrylates offer less health hazard, but normally also lower cure speed.
A newly developed, medium alkoxylated tetra-acrylate is compared with TMPTA and other alkoxylated tri-acrylates showing that an optimized degree of alkoxylation gives a product with excellent reactivity, low odour and extremely low skin irritation.
