Most from the reason of reduction of solvents in paints and coatings, the curing of liquid coatings by
using UV-radiation becomes more and more popular. In the beginning of this technology more than 20 years ago, the usage of UV-acrylates was more or less limited to transparent coatings. With the
development of a new class of photoinitiators by BASE AG in the late 70's (Acylphosphineoxide-
Derivates APO) also pigmented systems were able to cure by UV-Iight. Nowadays a tendency to cure
pigmented coatings as well can be noticed. About preliminary results in this field of application will be reported herewith.
