In radiation curing technology, sources of UV photons and electrons are needed
which in the curing plane reach power densities between 0.1 and 40 , allow
tuning of the penetration depth and are able to generate a high concentration of
chain initiating species such as radicals, protons or cations.

Using low-energy electron accelerators or medium pressure mercury lamps these
conditions can be fulfilled within the following limitations: for electrons energy.
absorption in the accelerator exit window titanium foil should not lead to foil
temperatures higher than 450°C and the bulb temperatur of medium pressure
mercury lamp should not exeed 900°C.

Recently, electron accelerators with energies < 150 keV and monochromatic excimer
UV lamps are also offered for curing applications. These "very low"-energy electron
accelerators are low cost machines with low or moderate dose-speed capacity.
Excimer lamps are still under development but already offer an interesting potential
for "cold" curing applications.
