The development of radiation curing in Russia commenced in 60's-70's and was
sufficiently successful, especially from the scientific point of view. In 80's, when
the Russian economics has been almost collapsed, a gap between scientific
efforts and industrial needs has been growing. The lack of new acrylic
monomers became the decisive factor of radcure stalling. Nevertheless some
radcure processes and systems have been developing even in this recession
period. EB and UV curable unsaturated polyester-styrene (UPS) wood coatings
and building adhesives, UV acrylic materials for flexographic plates should be
emphasized.

Nowadays, despite great changes in the country are not fully completed, a new
surge of the interest to radcure technology is obvious. The Russian industry has
eventually become concerned with conservation of energy and natural resources
and VOC minimization as well as with recycling of materials and environmental
issues. Such specialty materials as optical fiber and optical disc, UV coatings,
UV-curable adhesives for laminated glass production, UV-curable dental resin
materials have been developing and growing.

Those market data shown in the following sections are based mostly on the
information collected by DIPOL company and partly on information gathered
from specialists involved in radiation curing technology.
