Since its beginnings in the 1970s, radiation curing of coatings has developed to the point where today it is a universal crosslinking technology. In the wood-coating sector and in the graphics industry, radiation curing is already established and is continuing on a growth path.
Whereas to start with the possibility of solvent-free application was the driving force behind the
success of radiation curing, it is nowadays economic advantages, such as low energy consumption,
rapid further processing of coated parts, and attractive surface properties, that have come to the fore. New findings in the chemistry of binders, initiators and stabilizers, and in curing technology, are showing the way to new applications, which will give further strong growth impulses to the use of radiation curing.
