An EB flexo wet-trapping concept and liquid EB curable inks have been recently introduced to the packaging market. The features of the original prototype formulations have been refined in the new compositions, featuring improved theology and adhesion to a broad range of plastic films. The theological adjustments, along with improved design of the ink delivery systems will be critically important for consistent printing at higher press speeds. Comparative ink consumption data demonstrates benefits of EB flexo inks vs. conventional flexor ink systems. Finally, results of initial press evaluations are presented to illustrate some basic features of EB inks' press performance and print quality.
