Dentin adhesives are used in restorative dentistry to achieve a strong bond 'between the filling composite and dental hard tissues (dentin and enamel). Besides the photoinitiator and solvent, such as water, ethanol and acetone or mixtures thereof, the currently used self-etching dentin adhesives contain different monomer components. The main components include adhesive monomers, such as polymerizable carboxylic acids (4-MET), phosphoric acids (MOP), and phosphonic acid (AEP), which are able to modify the enamel and dentin surface, promote the diffusion of the monomer into the dentin structure and mediate the formation of a strong bond between the dentin and the composite filling material.
