Radiation curable powder coatings are nowadays being considered one of the most promising paint application systems. Thinking on coating wood and other thermal sensitive substrates, technical requirements for this particular market are really a challenge to the possible powder systems. The difficulties to outperform the current solvent systems are approached in this paper showing the studies made to design the most suitable formulations using Urethane-Acrylated (UA) derivatives. DMTA, PhotoDSC study, FTIR characterisation, among other analytical techniques, permit an extensive knowledge of the products. A comparison against Polyester-Acrylated (PEA) system has also been performed.
