The usage of radiation curable coatings is well established in the field of flat substrates. UV coatings show both ecological and economical benefits. Five different industrial coating technologies have been compared regarding the coating of doors by using the Ecoefficency Analysis. The results showed that UV curing is the most ecoefficient . The most frequent applications of the UV technology are coating of paper, wood, and plastics. Unfortunately these applications are still limited to flat substrates where a homogeneous distribution of the UV light over the surface can be assured. In the case of 3- dimensional substrates a concept has to be developed which assures that the UV dose applied to each part of the surface is sufficient to overcome the effect of oxygen inhibition.
