Since the beginning of digital printing (early 90s), Xeikon has played an important role in introducing the first high speed digital color presses. In this early phase, the majority of the printed jobs were short run jobs, replacing traditional offset workflow. At the end of the century more variable data jobs were printed and at this moment nearly 50 % of all printed matter produced by our presses is fully variable. Each page is different. The color applications that are targeted are various invoice printing, personalized direct mailing, personalized share portfolio performance reports, passport printing,... We see that this trend is also moving to other types of printing whereby the flexibility, image quality and printing speed are becoming more and more important. We see complete new applications coming up like personalized wall paper, region and seasonal packaging, screen print replacement, personalized pharmaceutical packaging, incorporation of variable brand protection and security features,...
