UV/EB Protocol - Requirements Related to Occupational Health and Safety Stipulated Consistently in Europe

Environmental protection requirements but also advantages in the quality and processability have up to now lead to a rapid increase of EB/UV curing paint systems in the printing industry. New paint systems and customised process engineering will in the near future establish this technology in other areas of the coating industry. However European directives and standards but also national regulations for occupational health and safety as a rule contain only few of those requirements on machinery safety and corporate health and safety. To bridge this gap the European UV protocol of the printing industry has been revised and extended. The aim of this project was to summarise and to update the relevant requirements on all application technologies. With the presented new UV protocol all preconditions are specified comprehensively and concludingly according to the current state-of-the art in order to process and cure EBI UV paints safely in all applications.
