UV Silicone release coatings have been industrial for. more than ten years. However, their market share is still rather low in comparison with solventless thermal re!ease coatings. The st century should show an increase of UV curing silicone material sales; Indeed, worries over release instability with UV silicone systems are fewer and fewer with the advent of more powerful irradiation lamps and efficient photoinitiators. Both radical and cationic systems enable UV silicone coating on many paper or filmic substrates. Silicone epoxides are advantageous on filmic substrates since they do not require inertization and give good anchorage without rub-off or shrinkage. They can also be applied on glassine or clay coated papers with the advantage that low temperature avoids overdrying of the paper. Finally, off-line or inline laminated complexes obtained with different PSAs are now possible with premium or tight release properties.
