Powder coating and the benefits associated with this method of finishing have been profitable utilised for decades. The technology involved and the powder used have been developed and refined to the point where, today, more or less any product that can be powder-coated is treated in this way, for example, refrigerators, washing machines, bicycles and even car bodies etc. During the last years the use of powder have entered into new markets like the furniture industry — powder coating on MDF. Novel binder systems which achieve a significantly higher cross-linking density than conventional powder coating allow to produce powder coating surfaces which meet or even exceed the highest furniture specifications. The UV powder coatings easily comply with the DIN 68861 and FIRA 6250 furniture standards, which are the strictest standards in the world. Both primer and topcoat systems are available today. The UV Powder technology offers a number of specific advantages compared with the thermo-cu ring powder system:
• For the product better quality, melting and curing take place in separate steps, better coating properties e g hardness and chemical resistance
• For production more compact equipment
• For the environment lower energy consumption and thanks to the compact equipment, less material
