Due to the numerous advantages of UV-printings different new applications were developed, for example also in the area of food contact materials. For these materials strong reglementations concerning human health exist. In this connection the recently adopted EU-frame regulation 1935/2004 must be fulfilled. The central point in this regulation is the requirement of traceability of used substances in the whole chain from raw material producers until the food producers. Despite of extensive positive lists for allowed substances many components of UV-printing inks like photo sensitizers are nearly not yet regulated. With regard to the claimed quality assurance results of migration- and set-off-investigations are shown and discussed.
