The UV-radical polymerisation process can be improved under oxygen reduced conditions in double respect: With obviously reduced UV-power it becomes possible to print extremely heat sensitive substrates in UV-sheetfed machines. With UV-power, which is todays state-of-the-art, the working under oxygen reduced conditions offers possibilities to the formulator to work with less photoinitiator and to work without oxygen catcher. This leads to products with a minimum of odour and extremely low extractables. The at endless applications relatively simple process of oxygen reduction at the place of the UV-light exposure has been transmitted successfully to sheetfed machines in the range of the interdeck drying and has already demonstrated its industrial usability on several printing machines.
