Ultraviolet polymerisation offers new perspectives in product development and pollution control. The major solvents used in traditional coating polymers are volatile organic components (VOC's) which generate ozone from the reaction with oxides of nitrogen. UV curable coatings contain no solvent, so emission and flammability are not a concern. The process provides total control of the curing temperature, making it ideal for heat sensitive substrates and thus introduces the possibility for a complete new range of coated materials with high added value.
