Radiation curing in the form of ultraviolet emission for use in the graphic arts,
wood treatment, and chemical polymerization field has become quite common
nowadays. What is less common is the directional and controlled emission from
highly focused lamp sources, more commonly known as 'spot curing'.
Radiation curing sources take advantage of the high peaks of irradiance found in
the typical pressurized mercury systems as shown in figure 1. Specific
polymerization/photochemical absorption bandwidths can also be targeted by the
doping of pressurized mercury bulbs with specific elements as figure 2 and 3
show.
